How Live Hope Laugh got started

Live Hope Laugh began in the fall of 2010 after Caroline’s daughter, Alexis, was diagnosed with type one diabetes. Inspired by the diagnosis, the mother-daughter duo set out to support others living with the condition. They started by raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through bake sales, handmade barrette sales, and walks for a cure, donating every cent to JDRF. While fundraising was fulfilling, they wanted to see the direct impact of their efforts, which led to the creation of Live Hope Laugh with the goal of reaching more people. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Carroll County, MD, the organization’s mission is to support children and teens with chronic illnesses. Their first fundraiser was a Joe Corbi’s event, and that Christmas they hand-delivered wrapped gifts from Santa to three families. Today, Live Hope Laugh brightens the holidays for over 100 families each year and runs programs year-round to bring relief, support, and joy to those they serve.
